Human Subjects Research
Training Requirements for Human Subjects Protection
The following courses cover both the Human Subject Protection and Good Clinical Practice requirements and is required annually:
- A Basic Course for those who have never taken the VA basic course on Human Subjects Protections and GCP either through CITI or through EES. This course consists of nine modules.
- CITI 101 Refresher Course, consisting of seven modules, for those who have taken the VA basic course.
Note: Individuals exempt from this requirement: Secretarial staff

Use of Animals in Research
Required training for staff involved in the use of animals in research - The listed training modules on this link are all available on CITI and must be renewed annually.

OI&T Training
Information Security 201 for Research and Development Personnel - Updated Data Security Training (Released 1-15-08). This is a one-time training requirement by OI&T and does not need to be renewed. The link takes you to LMS for the online training. If you are non- VA employee and have not been registered in LMS, please contact Sandy Diaz at 212-686-7500 ext 4655.
Biosecurity Training Program
Required Training for Research Laboratory Staff (April 2005) - Staff must view this slideshow prior to beginning their duties.

All research employees working in the laboratory must also receive:
- Security training that is specific to the facility to which they are assigned.
- Laboratory safety training as required in VHA Handbooks 1200.6 and 1200.8, "Safety of Personnel Engaged in Research."
- Safety training that is specific to the biological, chemical and physical hazardous that they may encounter in their duties
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Required for all staff handling/transporting dangerous goods. (Infectious substances, dry ice…) Please contact the Research Office to obtain CD for online IATA training.
